In addition to my editing work, I have also given a number of presentations on fiction and craft, including both solo talks and also panel appearances:
- Immersion Blending: Edits that Mix the Reader’s Mind into the Narrative, a solo presentation for Editors Canada on how certain branches of philosophy and anthropology can be helpful in shaping and deepening emotions in fiction. I also presented an early version of this (prior to my name change) for the Neurodivergent Publishing Conference.
- Peeking through Your Fingers: An Introduction to Editing Horror, a solo presentation for Editors Canada on the internal mechanics and concerns of horror fiction, along with some pointers on how to get into the industry.
- The Ground in the Clouds: An Introduction to Structural Editing, a solo presentation for Editors Canada on the craft of structural and developmental editing, as well as common considerations for entering the professional community.
- Trans Rep in Media and Fiction, a panel presentation for Rainbow Space Magic 5.0 on what (not) to do when portraying trans characters, plus some themes in trans narratives more generally.
- When Queerness is Not a Plot Point, a panel presentation I moderated for Rainbow Space Magic 2025 on how queer storytelling can go beyond trauma and self-discovery to encompass a larger breadth of human possibility.
In addition to the above, I have also spoken, moderated, and paneled at a number of unrecorded events on a variety of subjects, including everything from fiction craft to themes of experience to social issues of bigotry and exclusion. I am available for speaking engagements on these and other subjects, including everything from public lectures to Q&A with a writing group; please contact me to arrange details.
